Gusty winds are expected today. Wildfire hazard is HIGH to VERY HIGH.

Wildfire Hazard

Due to warm temperatures and gusty winds forecasted for today the wildfire hazard has climbed to HIGH for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area.The hazard is VERY HIGH around the following communities; Wabasca, Chipewyan Lakes, Kinuso and Red Earth.

Weather Forecast

The forecast for today is calling for temperatures in the low to mid twenties and winds from the northwest 25 gusting up to 40  kilometers per hour. For friday, the forecast is calling for cooler temperatures across the province.

Wildfire Update as of 11:30 am Wednesday August 19th.

There have been no new wildfires over the past 24 hours.

Since April 1, in the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area there have been 241 wildfires that have burned a total of 22,400 hectares.

Fire Permits

From March 1 to October 31, fire permits are required for any type of burning in the forest protection area - except campfires. A fire permit is not required for a campfire. 

To request your free fire permit call your local Alberta Agriculture and Forestry Office.
