Last night firefighters and airtankers fought a grass fire in the community of East Prairie. It was quickly contained and has been extinguished.
Last night and this morning, firefighters with water trucks have been fighting a grass fire approximately 12 kilometres southwest of High Prairie. This wildfire is now being held. Being held means the wildfire is not expected to grow based on current weather conditions and the firefighting that has been performed on it.
Wildfire Hazard
Due to warm temperatures and winds tomorrow the wildfire hazard will be HIGH for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area.The hazard is VERY HIGH for areas around the community of High Prairie.
Use caution while working or recreating in our forests as conditions are dry and a wildfire will ignite easily and spread very quickly under windy conditions. To report a wildfire call 310-FIRE(3473).
High Alert
Firefighters with helicopters and airtankers are stationed throughout the area ready to fight any new wildfires that may start. We also have our personnel in the fire towers on high alert constantly watching for smoke.
Weather Forecast
The forecast for tomorrow is calling for warmer temperatures and winds from the north/northwest at 20 kilometres per hour. Rain is expected for the weekend.

There was one new wildfire yesterday afternoon. The grass fire was contained and has been turned over to the landowner who is responsible to extinguish it.
Slave Lake Wildfire number 175 was discovered on July 1st and is located 36 kilometers northeast of Peerless Lake and 33 kilometers west of Chipewyan Lakes.This wildfire is under control. Firefighters are patrolling and extinguishing smoldering ground fires.
Slave Lake Wildfire number 163 which is located at approximately kilometer 25 on highway 754, 26 kilometers northeast of Marten Beach is under control at 9,895 hectares.Firefighters are patrolling and extinguishing smoldering ground fires.
Since April 1, in the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area there have been 237 wildfires that have burned a total of 22,575.32 hectares.

Fire Permits
From March 1 to October 31, fire permits are required for any type of burning in the forest protection area - except campfires. A fire permit is not required for a campfire.
