Fire Hazard reduced - Fire Ban still in effect

The Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area received moderate precipitation over the last 24 hours which has reduced the fire hazard to moderate.  At this time the fire ban is still in effect in this area.

Thank you to all that respected the fire ban this past weekend.  Abiding by the fire ban helps to keep our fire fighters free to fight new wildfire starts.

Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area Update

There were no new wildfire started in the past 24 hours in the Slave Lake area, there are currently seven wildfires in the area and they are all considered to be under control.  A total of 1188.47 ha have been burned during this fire season in the Slave Lake area.

Provincial Update

In the province there are currently 39 wildfires burning: 5 are out of control, 6 are being held, 27 are under control, and 1 has been turned over to the appropriate party. A total of 46495 ha have been burned in the province during this fire season.

Where is the fire ban?
The fire ban applies to specified areas in Alberta’s forests as set by the Forest Protection Area regulation. Other jurisdictions outside of Alberta’s forested areas, including counties and municipalities, may issue their own fire restriction or fire bans.

What's prohibited?
All open fires are banned, including campfires in campgrounds, backcountry and random camping areas. This includes charcoal briquettes, turkey fryers and tiki torches.

What is allowed?
Portable propane fire pits and gas or propane stoves and barbeques (not charcoal briquettes) designed for cooking or heating, and catalytic or infrared-style heaters.

Are fire permits allowed?
No. All fire permits are suspended or cancelled in Alberta’s Forest Protection Area and no new fire permits will be issued.
