April 20 Wildfire hazard is HIGH for Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area

The warm weather has caused the wildfire hazard to climb.The wildfire hazard for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area is HIGH. The forecast is calling for warm temperatures and gusty winds ( 20 km/hr gusting up to 40) for Tuesday April 21. Areas of dead dry grass are extremely flammable and under windy conditions a grass fire will spread very quickly. Residents and visitors are urged to be extra cautious with any burning at this time.

 

Wildfire Report as of April 20 4:00 pm

Over the weekend we had five new wildfires. Four have been extinguished and one has been turned over to the landowner.

Since April 1, the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area has recorded 14 wildfires which have burned 80.70 hectares. Thirteen of the wildfires have been extinguished and one has been turned over to the landowner who is resposible to extinguish the fire.

Fire Permits

From March 1 to October 31, Albertans in the forested areas need to get a FIRE PERMIT for any burning, excluding campfires. To request your free fire permit call your local Environment and Sustainable Resource Development Office.
