Update on wildfire burning on north end of North Wabasca Lake as of 9:30 pm May 24
The wildfire at the north end of North Wabasca Lake is classified as out of control and the estimated size is 275 hectares. At this time, dozers are working on building fire guard on the west and south side of the wildfire and they will be working through the night. Airtankers will return to the wildfire in the early morning. Residents have been evacuated and a reception center has been set up at the Calling Lake Multiplex.

Wildfire 22 kilometers SE of Slave Lake
Firefighters, aircraft and heavy equipment are working on a wildfire located 22 kilometers SE of Slave Lake. The wildfire was accurately measured and is 56 hectares. The airtankers were able to slow the spread and currently dozers are building fire guard around the fire. Dozer guard is completed around south end of fire and they are over half way up the west side. They will continue to work through the night to surround the fire.
Wildfire at Trout Lake
This evening a wildfire was reported in the community of Trout Lake. Firefighters and airtankers are working on it. At this time it is not threatening homes.
Wildfire Hazard
Warm and dry weather is expected to continue. The wildfire hazard remains EXTREME for the Slave Lake Wildfire Management Area.
The conditions in the forest are very dry and under windy conditions a fire will spread very quickly. Use extreme caution and report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473).
Weather Forecast
For tomorrow the forecast is calling for warm temperatures, light winds from the North and risk of thundershowers. In the evening and overnight Monday there is the chance of very strong and gusty winds.
