Rocky Mountain House Forest Area Wildfire Update - July 27, 2021

The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is now VERY HIGH.


Fire Restriction wide-1

A FIRE RESTRICTION is now in effect for the south and western portions of the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, west of the forestry trunk road and south of Highway 11.

PROHIBITED
 
  • wood campfires on public land including backcountry and random camping areas
  • fireworks and exploding targets
 
ALLOWED
 
  • wood campfires on private land
  • wood campfires within provincial campgrounds in a designated campfire ring
  • backyard fire pits
  • charcoal briquette barbeques
  • propane or natural gas fueled appliances
  • indoor wood fires
  • open flame oil devices
 
Remember to check the hot spots on your off-highway vehicle (OHV) and remove debris before and after use.
 
If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.
 
The fire restriction will remain in effect until conditions improve.

Fire Advisory 2

 

A fire advisory remains in effect for the northern portion Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, due to hot and dry conditions.

 Under this advisory:

  • New fire permits will issued on an as needed basis.

 Prohibited:

  • Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.

 Allowed:

  • safe wood campfires 
  • backyard fire pits
  • portable propane fire pits
  • gas or propane stoves and barbecues
  • catalytic or infrared-style heaters

This fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions change. 


WILDFIRE SITUATION UPDATE

There are currently two wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area:

  • RWF-070 is out of control at 155 hectares (ha) in size. There are 47 firefighters and four helicopters assigned to this wildfire.
  • RWF-071 is out of control at 66 ha in size. There are 18 firefighters and four helicopters assigned to this wildfire.


Since March 1, there have been 72 wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, burning a total of 316.4 hectares (ha). 


PROVINCIAL UPDATE

There are 50 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Two are out of control wildfires, 15 are being held and 33 are under control.

Since March 1 there have been 947 wildfires in the FPA, burning a total of 47,579.11 ha.

SAFE CAMPFIRE

If you're having a campfire in the Forest Protection of Area, make sure it's fully extinguished when you are done. Soak it, stir it, and soak it again until the ashes are cool to the touch. Never leave a campfire unattended!
