Ignition operations on the Blackstone prescribed fire, 40 kms. northwest of Nordegg, commenced yesterday in the early afternoon. Operations will recommence when conditions are favourable.

The objective is to improve ungulate habitat by reducing shrub encroachment and reinvigorating grass growth. We will proceed when and where we can ensure a safe operation that will meet the overall objectives of the prescribed fire.

The adjacent area will remain closed to the public from May 19-31.
