The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is now VERY HIGH.
A fire restriction is in effect for portions of the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area. It includes areas south of Highway 11 to the Red Deer River and west of Highway 734/40 between the Brazeau River and the Red Deer River.
is now in effect for the south and western portions of the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, west of the forestry trunk road and south of Highway 11.
- wood campfires on public land including backcountry and random camping areas
- fireworks and exploding targets
- wood campfires on private land
- wood campfires within provincial campgrounds in a designated campfire ring
- backyard fire pits
- charcoal briquette barbecues
- propane or natural gas fueled appliances
- indoor wood fires
- open flame oil devices
A fire advisory remains in effect for the northern portion Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, due to hot and dry conditions.
Under this advisory:
- New fire permits will issued on an as needed basis.
Prohibited:
- Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.
Allowed:
- safe wood campfires
- backyard fire pits
- portable propane fire pits
- gas or propane stoves and barbecues
- catalytic or infrared-style heaters
This fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions change.
WILDFIRE SITUATION UPDATE
There are currently four wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area. Two of these wildfires are being held and two are under control.
Since March 1, there have been 87 wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, burning a total of 317.26 hectares (ha).
PROVINCIAL UPDATE
There are currently 34 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Eight of these wildfires are being held, 25 are under control and one has been turned over to the responsible party.
Since March 1 there have been 1,081 wildfires in the FPA, burning a total of 52,359 ha.

SAFE CAMPFIRE
If you're having a campfire in the Forest Protection of Area, make sure it's fully extinguished when you are done. Soak it, stir it, and soak it again until the ashes are cool to the touch. Never leave a campfire unattended!
