The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is MODERATE to HIGH.
WILDFIRE SITUATION UPDATE
There is currently one OUT OF CONTROL wildfire in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area. This wildfire is located 3 kilometres south of Elk River Road and 14 kilometres west of Brazeau Reservoir. It is approximately 62 hectares in size. There are currently 17 wildland firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment responding to this wildfire.
FIRE ADVISORY
A fire advisory is in effect for the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area section of the Forest Protection Area due to dry conditions.
Under this advisory:
- Existing fire permits are cancelled;
- No new permits will be issued until conditions change;
Prohibited:
- Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire;
Allowed:
- Safe wood campfires
- Backyard fire pits
- Portable propane fire pits
- Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
- Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.
The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.
PROVINCIAL UPDATE
There are currently 12 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area (FPA) of Alberta. One of these wildfires is out of control, nine are under control and two have been turned over to the responsible party.
Since March 1 there have been 157 wildfires in the FPA, burning a total of 189.81 ha.
