Peace River Area Update

Winds gusting 40 km/h near noon - Peace River Wildfire Management Area

The wildfire hazard remains HIGH for the Peace River Wildfire Management Area. Thundershowers have been forecasted which bring an increased chance of lightning fires.  Residents and visitors to the Peace River Area are urged to be extra cautious, especially in areas with dry grass.

High winds and outdoor burning don’t mix winds are expected to increase, gusting to 40 km/hr coupled with temperatures in the mid 20's. This will increase the potential for wildfire events in the area. Of particular concern are those areas that are grassy and open, please take extra caution when working or recreating in such areas.You can be held responsible if your fire escapes the burn permit area.

Check burned sites for possible hold-over fires. Lightning strikes or improper extinguished fires can flash back to life, especially during a wind event. It is advised to check and re-check for hold-over fires by digging deep into the ashes and feeling for heat.
