Dry grasses and other forest vegetation pose a significant fire hazard this time of year.  Please exercise caution and report wildfires to 310-FIRE.

 

WILDFIRE ADVISORY IN EFFECT

A Fire Advisory has been issued for the Peace River Forest Area due to dry and windy conditions.
 
Active fire permits are not affected at this time but users are advised to review their permit requirements and ensure they are within compliance. No fire permits will be issued for any non-essential burning until conditions improve.
 
Allowed
  • Safe wood campfires in campgrounds (within fire rings) or random camping areas
  • Charcoal briquettes
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
 
Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.
 
The Fire Advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

WILDFIRE UPDATE

The wildfire danger level is now VERY HIGH in the Peace River Forest Area. The dry grasses and forest vegetation pose an especially high hazard in windy conditions. Please exercise extreme caution.

There are currently no wildfires burning burning in the Peace River Forest Area.

There have been a number of wildfires and mutual aid fires in the Peace River Forest Area and so far, all of them have been human-caused.  Please do your part to prevent wildfires.

DO YOUR PART TO PREVENT SPRING WILDFIRES

Before you burn it, get a permit

Fire permits are required for all burning, with the exception of heating or warming fires, within the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.   Call the Peace River Forest Area office at 780-624-6190 to find out how to obtain your FREE fire permit and please burn safely within the conditions on your permit.

Be sure to extinguish your campfires

Soak it with water, stir it up and soak it again. The ashes should be cool to the touch.

Keep your OHV debris free

PREV_OHV_HotSpots_Ad_7.75x5_CMYK-1Grass, twigs, leaves and mud can build up in the hotspots, heat up, drop off and start a wildfire. Remember to clean your machine before, during and after your ride.
