Dry grasses and other forest vegetation pose a significant fire hazard this time of year.  Please exercise caution.

 

WILDFIRE ADVISORY IN EFFECT

A Fire Advisory has been issued for the Peace River Forest Area due to dry and windy conditions.
 
Active fire permits are not affected at this time but users are advised to review their permit requirements and ensure they are within compliance. No fire permits will be issued for any non-essential burning until conditions improve.
 
Allowed
  • Safe wood campfires in campgrounds (within fire rings) or random camping areas
  • Charcoal briquettes
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
 
Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.
 
The Fire Advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

WILDFIRE UPDATE

The wildfire danger level is now VERY HIGH in the Peace River Forest Area. The dry grasses and forest vegetation pose a high hazard during this time of year and will continue to do so until the forest greens up for the spring season.  

There are currently 4 wildfires burning out of control, 3 being held and 3 under control wildfires in the area as well as 1 wildfire that has been turned over to the landowner.  Of these active wildfires, 8 were discovered west of Deadwood in the Buchanan Creek area today.  Firefighters and aircraft will continue to work towards extinguishing these wildfires this afternoon and evening.

There have been a number of wildfires and mutual aid fires in the Peace River Forest Area and so far, all of them have been human-caused.  Please do your part to prevent wildfires.

DO YOUR PART TO PREVENT SPRING WILDFIRES

Before you burn it, get a permit

Fire permits are required for all burning, with the exception of heating or warming fires, within the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.   Call the Peace River Forest Area office at 780-624-6190 to find out how to obtain your FREE fire permit and please burn safely within the conditions on your permit.

Be sure to extinguish your campfires

Soak it with water, stir it up and soak it again. The ashes should be cool to the touch.

Keep your OHV debris free
