The 2019 wildfire season in Alberta officially ends today.
Alberta Wildfire would like to thank you for properly extinguishing your campfires, using caution when recreating in the outdoors and reporting wildfires this season.
While fire season is now officially over, smart burning practices never go out of season. If you are going to do any burning this fall and/or winter, please take the time to read the preparation tips below.
FIRE PERMITS WITHIN THE FPA
Please also take into consideration the safety concerns that may arise from the smoke your burning creates. Always ensure safety precautions are taken and appropriate smoke signage is in place. If you see smoke creating a safety concern on roadways, please call 310-FIRE immediately.
Please note that some municipalities in the area may continue to issue fire permits throughout the winter. If you are not within the FPA, please continue to contact your local municipality before burning.
FIRE PREVENTION
A fire left smouldering can burn underground all winter long and cause a wildfire in the spring.
Please check your winter burns to ensure they are completely extinguished and before conducting any winter burning review Brush Piles and Windrows Safe Burning Practices.
WILDFIRE UPDATE (current as of October 31, 2019)
Battle Complex- PCX-001 (formerly PWF 052 and 054):
This lightning caused fire remains under control at 55,179 hectares in size in the Manning/Notikewin area.
Thanks to the hard work of firefighters, aircraft and heavy equipment, 100% of the fire perimeter is now considered to be contained and continues to be monitored.
