Fire Advisory

Due to the warm, dry conditions and dry surface fuels, the Peace River Wildfire Management Area has declared a Fire Advisory, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.

Safe campfires are permitted in campgrounds and back country or random camping areas.  Please ensure that your campfire is COMPLETELY extinguished before you leave your site.

The fire advisory will remain effective until the fire hazard conditions improve.

Wildfire Hazard

As temperatures continue to climb, the relative humidity has dropped, and there is no significant rain in the forecast, the wildfire hazard is now HIGH and expected to continue to increase throughout the week.

Winds 25k/hr and gusting up to 35 km/hr are expected this week. High winds can cause extreme fire behaviour and allow fires to grow rapidly. Residents and visitors to the Peace River Wildfire Management Area are urged to be cautious with any burning at this time.

Please exercise caution when burning or recreating in the forest and call 310-FIRE to report wildfires.

Fire Permits

Active fire permits are not currently suspended but may be in the near future.  All new fire permit requests will be assessed on a site by site basis.

During the fire season, fire permits are required for all fires, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area. Please call 780-624-6190 to request your free fire permit.

Wildfires in the Peace area

So far this fire season, there have been 24 wildfires in the Peace River Wildfire Management Area, all but three of which have been extinguished.  There are currently two wildfires under control and one out of control, each at 0.01 hectares in size.

So far this fire season, ALL of the wildfires in the Peace River Wildfire Management Area have been human caused.  Please remember to get a fire permit before you burn, ensure that your campfire is COMPLETELY extinguished before you leave your site and check your ATV for dry debris that may be heating up on the hot parts of your machine.

It is important for firefighting efforts to begin as soon as possible after a wildfire starts and that's where you come in...  PLEASE CALL 310-FIRE TO REPORT WILDFIRES.

Please help us action wildfires quickly by calling 310-FIRE to report a wildfire.
