Wildfire season officially starts today, March 1.  This means that you need a permit for any burning, other than a campfire.

Our Patrolmen, David, Sherry, Bruce, and Bill, are available to visit your burn sites and issue permits.  Call the office at 780-623-5388 to get in touch with the appropriate person for your area.

Now is a great time to check any winter burning that you may have done over the past few months.  Inserting a metal rod into the burn area will help you know if the fire is really extinguished, or if it's lurking underground, waiting for the right conditions to blaze back to life.  A metal rod that comes out hot or warm to the touch means your fire is still burning.

We are looking forward to working with you all again this wildfire season.  It remains to be seen what will happen with the weather during the month of March, however we are starting the season with a lower than average drought code.  This doesn't mean we are in a drought, but it does mean that the ground is drier than average, which may contribute to increased burning conditions.

As always, we are here to help.  Please contact us for your fire permits, and if you need any information on FireSmart or other ways to improve your home or property's ability to resist wildfire.

If you see smoke or fire in the forest, call 310-FIRE.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
