The wildfire hazard for the Lac La Biche Forest Area is VERY HIGH.

The forecast for Tuesday is for temperatures of 19 degrees, low humidity of 20% and winds NW30 gusting to 50 km/hr.  The threat tomorrow is from strong and gusting winds which will quickly spread any grass fires that ignite.

There is a FIRE ADVISORY in place because of the weather conditions.  No burning of any kind until further notice.  Thanks for your co-operation.

We had eight new wildfires today.  Two fires are under control, three are being held, one has been turned over to the landowner to extinguish, and two fires are out of control at this time. The out of control fires are relatively small and we have crews working on them currently.

At this time we have eight crews, six helicopters and various pieces of heavy equipment working in the area. So far this season we've had 29 wildfires in the area.

It's been a busy start to the wildfire season across the province.  Please be particularly careful in the forest area tomorrow and for the rest of the week.  Until the winds subside or we get some relief in the form of precipitation, the wildfire hazard will continue to be VERY HIGH.

Do you part to prevent wildfire.  If you're working in the forest and using a quad, make sure you stop frequently and clear your machines of grass buildup.  This debris heats up, falls to the ground and can start wildfires along your trail.

You can follow the status of the wildfires by downloading the free Alberta Wildfire app, or by visiting wildfire.alberta.ca and clicking on status map.
