The wildfire hazard is HIGH for the Lac La Biche Wildfire Management Area.

The forecast for tomorrow is for a high of 30 degrees, humidity of 35%, no precipitation, high chance of lightning and winds SW20 km/hr.  Unsettled weather is expected for the weekend, with cooler temperatures and a chance of precipitation accompanied by lightning on Saturday.

We didn't have any new fires today.  So far this season we have had 218 wildfires in our area.  There are three fires from earlier in the season that are on patrol status.  We are carefully watching for smoke in places that received lightning over the past several days.  A charge from a lightning strike can remain in the ground for several days, emerging as a wildfire when the conditions are right.  With warm, dry weather in the forecast for tomorrow, and a light wind to stir things up, we could see some holdover lighting fires. The dry lightning expected tomorrow afternoon will also be carefully monitored.

We have 8 crews, 4 helicopters and the airtankers ready to fight any new wildfires in the area.

If you see smoke or fire in the forest, call 310-FIRE.  Your help in detecting any new wildfires is appreciated!

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
