The wildfire hazard is VERY HIGH for the Lac La Biche Area.  Warm temperatures, lower humidity and breezy winds mean surface fuels like grass, leaves and twigs are very succeptible to wildfire.  Matted grass, spruce stands and aspen stands that have not leafed out yet pose a serious threat for wildfire.

The forecast for tomorrow is for a high of 21 with humidity of 20% and winds SW15.  There is no precipitation in the forecast.

We had two new wildfires today.  All fires are either extinguished or under control.  So far this season we have had a total of 105 wildfires.  There are several other fires burning in the province at this time.

We have 14 crews, nine helicopters, cats, water trucks and other heavy equipment in the area.

As we head towards the long weekend its important to remember how dry the forest is.  Be particularly careful with any burning, as sparks and embers that may carry to matted grass or trees will be likely to turn into wildfires.  With low humidity and no precipitation expected tomorrow, Mother Nature is not going to extinguish any fires.  Make sure your campfires are completely extinguished, ensure burning barrels have mesh screens to prevent sparks from escaping - and never burn when winds exceed 15 km/hr.  If you are working in the forest tomorrow and using a quad, make sure to stop frequently and clear debris from hotspots.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
