Wildfire Hazard Reaches VERY HIGH in Lac La Biche Area

GFX-HSB-WildfireDangerUpdate-VeryHigh

The wildfire hazard for the Lac La Biche area has climbed to VERY HIGH.  Warm, dry, and breezy conditions have dried out grass, leaves, twigs and other surface fuels that last week's snow had dampened.  Grass that has not turned green yet, like matted grass in fields and ditches, is very dry and volatile.  There will be very easy burning in the flashy fuels tomorrow.

The forecast for tomorrow is for a high of 18 with humidity of 25%, no precipitation and winds SE15.  No burning tomorrow because of the wind speed.  You need a permit for any burning (except a campfire) and the conditions for a safe burn are outlined on the back of your permit.  Burning is not allowed when winds are greater than 15 km/hr.

We had one new fire today which is in the process of being turned over to the landowner to extinguish.  So far this season we have had 104 wildfires.  We have 14 crews, nine helicopters, water trucks and heavy equipment on hand.  The air tankers are being dispatched to another location tomorrow.

Please do your part to prevent wildfire.  Don't take chances, especially at this time of year.
