Diminishing winds and the chance of some precipitation have dropped the wildfire hazard to MODERATE. At this time of year, cured (dry) grass is very succeptible to wildfire.
Be very careful with any fires. Sparks from burning piles, campfires or burn barrels can travel to grassy areas, causing wildfires that may be difficult to contain.
Remember that you need a permit for any burning, except a campfire. Permits are free and are accompanied by rules for safe burning. Conditions for burning are on the back of all permits. There is no burning when wind speeds are in excess of 15 km/hr.
So far this season we have had 15 wildfires. All wildfires are either under control or extinguished.
