Lac La Biche Area Update

Wildfire Hazard LOW for Lac La Biche Area

Posted on Fri, May 09, 2014

If you're still following the bouncing ball for the wildfire hazard for the Lac La Biche area, we've dropped to LOW.  Some arctic air that's influencing our area, a bit of scattered precipitation, and some snow, have knocked the hazard down to LOW.  We had a nice day on Thursday, but cooler temperatures and light winds for Friday and into Saturday are keeping the hazard down.

A low hazard doesn't mean there is no danger of wildfire.  In fact, there is standing grass out there in the area that is very dry and succeptible to wildfire.  Not all parts of our area received the precipitation, and some areas are quite dry.  So remain diligent when working and recreating in the forest area.  Check your quads frequently for buildup, and never leave a campfire before it is completely out.

So far we've had 30 fires in the area this fire season.  Four fires remain under control and are quite small.  The rest have been extinguished.

We have nine crews and three helicopters ready to protect the area from wildfire today.
