The wildfire hazard is HIGH for the long weekend.

The forecast is for continued warm temperatures of about 22, with 60% humidity.  There is a high potential for lightning tomorrow, and winds N15.

We had no new fires today.  All ten fires in our area remain under control with the majority of them on patrol status.  We have seven crews, three helicopters and the airtankers ready to action any new wildfires.

Thanks for joining us for the airtanker demonstration following the PowWow Days parade today.  The tankers stationed in Lac La Biche were diverted to wildfires in the High Level area, and the tankers from Slave Lake were able to fill in for the demonstration.  Pictured below is one of the CL 215s above the exhibition grounds, and then an image showing them dropping in front of the crowd.

Congratulations to the Alberta Junior Forest Rangers, who turn 50 this year.  Since 1965 Alberta has been offering a Junior Forest Ranger program.  About 4,000 youth have participated over the years.  The parade float below is a two layer birthday cake made entirely from trees, with a 50 on top, made from pine cones. Way to go JFRs! (If you look carefully, you can see Bertie floating down the street just ahead of the JFR float.)

Enjoy the long weekend.  Keep your campfires small and under control and remember to clear debris from your quads frequently.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
