The wildfire danger remains HIGH in the Lac La Biche forest area.

The forecast for tomorrow is for a high of 13 with moderate humidity and strong winds gusting to 30-35 km/hr.  There is potential for isolated showers or rain later in the evening/overnight tonight and for Tuesday afternoon.  Despite this forecast and the cooler temperatures, the risk is HIGH for grass fires.  Under the right conditions, grass fires that start tomorrow could travel about 25 meters a minute with tomorrow's winds.  We do not expect the hazard to decrease until we receive significant rain or the grass turns green.  Dry grass from last fall is a severe wildfire threat until it turns green later in the spring.

Many areas of the province have fire advisories in place or have cancelled burning permits.  Check albertafirebans.ca for up to date information.  At this time we have not suspended or cancelled burning permits however, you must follow the conditions on the permits which include refraining from burning when winds exceed 15 km/hr. No burning tomorrow, based on the wind forecast.

We had one new wildfire today for a total of 45 wildfires in the area.  We have 11 crews, the airtankers, 4 helicopters, and 7 water trucks on hand in the forest area.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
