The wildfire danger is HIGH for the Lac La Biche forest area.

The forecast is for increasingly warmer temperatures for the next several days, little chance of rain, moderate chance of lighting and light winds.  Under these conditions, we expect the wildfire danger to increase as the week progresses.

We haven't had any new wildfires this week.  So far this season, we've had a total of 129 wildfires in the Lac La Biche forest area.

There are currently four active wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area. All wildfires are under control and crews are patrolling the fires to extinguish remaining hotspots.

In addition to crews working on the four remaining wildfires, we have 8 crews, 5 helicopters and the airtankers ready to fight any new wildfires tomorrow.

It doesn't take long for the forest to dry out following a rain event.  With a little bit of wind and some warm temperatures the fine fuels like grass will start to lose moisture and dry out quickly, followed by larger material and trees.

Don't let your guard down!  Be mindful of good wildfire prevention habits even when the grass and trees are green.  Always extinguish your campfires, and be careful operating quads in grassy areas.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
