The wildfire danger is MODERATE for the Lac La Biche forest area for June 23.

Tomorrow's forecast is for a high of 27 degrees, humidity of 45%, with light winds at SE/SW 15 km/hr and a chance of thundershowers. Tomorrow's lightning forecast is high. Sunday is expected to be a relatively stable day, but Monday brings the potential for strong winds and more lightning as a cold front crosses the province.

We had 20 new wildfires today due to lightning crossing the area.  Of the 20 new fires, two are under control, eight are being held, two are out of control (we expect these out of control fires to change status early tomorrow to being held), and eight were extinguished.

Details on the two out of control fires are:

LWF 152, located at 12-35-82-6-4, in the Cowpar area, is 40 hectares.  Ground and aerial crews worked on this fire this afternoon and will resume work early tomorrow morning.  Dozers are expected to work through the night tonight to construct guard around the perimeter of the fire.

LWF 153, located at 11-8-66-1-4 (east of Marie Lake), is 5 hectares.  Ground and aerial crews worked on this fire this afternoon and will resume work early tomorrow morning. Dozers began construction of fire guard this afternoon and will work through the night on this fire as well.

So far this season we've had 156 wildfires.  There are 18 active wildfires in the area.  In addition to the new fires from today, we have six fires from before that are still being patrolled for remaining hotspots.

Tomorrow we have 13 crews, 12 helicopters, the airtankers, and three dozer groups ready to fight any new wildfires tomorrow.

If you are out and about tomorrow, and see smoke or fire in the forest, please call 310-FIRE.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
