The wildfire danger is VERY HIGH for the Lac La Biche forest area (see map).

Tomorrow's forecast is for a high of 28 degrees, humidity of 30%, with light winds at SE 15 km/hr. Tomorrow's lightning forecast is moderate. Under these conditions, fine fuels like grass, twigs, and leaves on the ground are very dry and have ignition potential. Be very careful in the forest tomorrow.

FWI for June 21

We haven't had any new wildfires this week.  So far this season, we've had a total of 129 wildfires in the Lac La Biche forest area.

There are currently three active wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area. All wildfires are under control and crews are patrolling the fires for signs of any remaining hot spots.

In addition to crews working on the three remaining wildfires, we have 14 crews, 11 helicopters, the airtankers, and three dozer groups ready to fight any new wildfires tomorrow.

Even though the grass is green, remember to be mindful when operating quads in grassy areas.

Congratulations to the community of Marie Lake, who was recognized as a FireSmart Community by FireSmart Canada!  Residents have been working diligently to make their community safer from wildfire by removing dead and down trees, thinning trees and pruning in yards and in common areas.  Alberta Wildfire was there to help out last weekend.  See the photo below!
