The wildfire hazard for tomorrow is VERY HIGH.  Warm temperatures, low humidity, winds and lightning are keeping the hazard up.  We continue to watch for holdover lightning fires, and thank you for being careful with your quads during this high wildfire danger period.

We had no new fires (so far) today.  The small fire from yesterday is extinguished.  The fire northeast of Rock Island Lake, near Twin Lake, is now 27 hectares.  Air tankers and ground crews worked hard on that fire yesterday until dark, and dozers worked through the night to get guard around the fire.  Winds today pushed the fire past the guard on the south east corner, but crews were able to catch the fire and get it contained once again.  There is dozer guard around 100% of the fire.  The photo below shows the dozer guard (dark outline) and you can also see the red marks where the retardant was dropped by the air tankers.  This fire is still classified as out of control but we are making solid progress on it.  Crews will work on hotspots until dark tonight and work will resume early tomorrow morning.

We have 10 crews, 9 helicopters, air tankers, two dozer units and other heavy equipment ready to action any new wildfires in the area.  Our crews continue to work on the Fort McMurray wildfire and the Thorhild County wildfire.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
