The wildfire hazard for the weekend is LOW.  Recent cooler temperatures, precipitation, and higher humidity levels are keeping the wildfire hazard at LOW.

This doesn't mean that things won't burn though!  We had two new fires this week.  So please remain diligent and be FireSmart.  Never leave a fire unattended.  And remember that you need a permit for any fire other than a campfire.

We watch the forest for smoke.  So don't think you'll be able to have a fire without anyone noticing! Our patrols, our lookout towers and the general public all report smoke in the forest.  When this happens, we check our permits to see if smoke is expected in that location.  If not, we assume it's a wildfire and dispatch firefighters immediately.  We might even send a helicopter.  So don't light up a brush pile, windrow or pile of yard debris without a permit!

Fire permits are available FREE from your local Agriculture and Forestr

y office.  A patrolman will visit your burn site, offer suggestions for an effective burn, and will issue a permit, which is recorded in our office.

So far this season we've had 217 wildfires.  There are no out of control fires in the area.  Some fires from earlier in the season are on patrol status.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
