Warm temperatures, low humidity, winds, and the chance of lightning are keeping the wildfire hazard VERY HIGH for tomorrow.

The lightning that crossed the area causing wildfires tonight, can cause holdover fires tomorrow and for the next several days.  If you see smoke or fire in the forest, call 310-FIRE!

Today was a very warm, windy day, which dried out the forest even more than it was.  Please be careful in the forest tomorrow.  Exercise extreme caution if you are using a quad.  Remember to stop frequently and clear hotspots of built up grass and muskeg that can heat up, fall to the ground and start a wildfire along your path.

At about 7 pm, and coinciding with lightning that crossed the area, we had two new wildfires. Both fires are on the northwest side of the area.  One is under control at .01 hectares.  The other is out of control at 5.0 hectares.  This fire is near Twin Lake, northeast of Rock Island Lake. Crews are working on both of these fires and will continue to do so until dark.  We will have crews back on the Twin Lake fire first thing tomorrow morning. There are currently no values at risk.  The photo below is from LWF 082, the Twin Lake fire.

We have ten crews, eleven helicopters, two dozer units and various other heavy equipment on hand to action any new wildfires.  We have substantial resources working on the Fort Mc Murray wildfire as well as assisting Thorhild County with their wildfire.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
