The wildfire hazard for the Lac La Biche forest area is HIGH to VERY HIGH heading into the weekend.

Warmer temperatures in the mid 20s, lower humidity and gusty winds mean the forest will continue to dry out over the next few days.  Fires that start will travel quickly with the strong winds.

Be careful with any burning.  Never burn when winds exceed 15 km/hr.  The winds this weekend are forecast to be stronger than that, so please refrain from any unnecessary burning. Follow the conditions outlined on the back of your fire permits.

Keep campfires small and controlled.  Winds can spread embers.  Keep your fires small and away from treed areas.  Never leave a campfire until it's completely extinguished. Winds can stir up a campfire and bring it back to life.  Soak it, stir the ashes, soak it again.

We didn't have any new wildfires today.  So far this season we've had 46 wildfires.

We have crews, helicopters, air tankers and heavy equipment on hand to action any new wildfires this weekend.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.  Watch the winds!
