LWF 122, the fire near Burnt Lake in the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range is now approximately 6,000 hectares. Crews continue to action the spots where the fire crossed Ken Baker Road last night.  Yesterday the airtankers were able to tie in a line of retardant linking to the cat guard on the south side of the fire.  This morning fire activity is picking up on the NE and NW perimeters of the fire as the fire finds dry fuel patches of conifer trees.  If winds pick up later today we expect the fire to move SW.  Even without winds the fire is moving as it senses where the dry fuels are.

An additional 42 firefighters from Ontario have joined the team on this fire today.  We have almost 170 firefighters including helicopters and heavy equipment working on this fire.  Dozers and crews will work today where it is safe to do so, with the intent to continue to contain the fire from the rear flank and limit the spread.

The map below shows the approximate progress of the fire.  Black lines indicate initial activity on May22, red indicates fire growth yesterday.
