Strong and gusty winds at E20 gusting to 35 km/hr are keeping the wildfire hazard for the Lac La Biche Forest Area at VERY HIGH.  Cooler temperatures of 11 degrees with humidity of 20% are expected, but there is no precipitation in the forecast.

Areas of exposed, cured grass continue to pose a significant wildfire risk. As a result, a Fire Advisory remains in effect for the Lac La Biche Forest Area.

  • Existing fire permits remain valid. Check the conditions on the back of your permits.  No burning when winds exceed 12 km/hr.
  • No new fire permits are being issued.
  • Safe campfires are allowed.  Keep them small and under control.  Make sure they are fully extinguished before you leave them.  The windy conditions pose a strong threat for spreading sparks and embers.

The Fire Advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

We currently have five wildfires in the area.  We had one new fire today.  Four fires are under control and one fire is being held.  LWF 029, along Highway 63, did not grow in size today.

We have seven crews, six helicopters, and heavy equipment including dozers and water trucks across the area.  So far this season we've had 36 wildfires in the area.
