Rain received across the area today, combined with the precipitation in the forecast for the next couple of days has dropped the wildfire hazard to LOW for the Lac La Biche area.

We had no new wildfires today! We still have two wildfires in the area.  LWF 076 from a few weeks ago is under control and is in the mop up stage.  LWF 082 near Twin Lakes, from a few days ago, is being held at 23 hectares. With winds from the north east tomorrow, you may see smoke from the Fort Mc Murray wildfire, particularly if you are north of Janvier.

We have eight crews, one helicopter, and the airtankers on hand to fight any new wildfires in the area. We have many resources deployed to Fort McMurray as well as helping with the Thorhild County wildfire.  We were happy to welcome several of our staff and firefighters back from Fort Mc Murray this week, after a long but rewarding two week stretch.

The photo below shows several of our firefighters helping on the Thorhild County wildfire.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.  Keep your campfires small and under control and even though it might be raining, keep up the habit of checking your quads frequently for grass and other debris that will build up, heat up, and cause a wildfire hazard.

Your next update will be on June 16 unless conditions change.
