The start of wildfire season is just one month away.
Now is a great time to check your winter burning and make sure your piles or windrows are not smouldering underground. A metal rod inserted into your ash pit, that comes out warm to the touch, means your fire is still active.
A drive across the area confirms that we've had significantly less snow cover this year than usual. Preliminary reports suggest we could be starting the season with very dry ground unless we get substantial precipitation this month. Now is the time to finish up any burning projects before the start of wildfire season and the typical, dry grass conditions that usually mean Spring in our area.
