The wildfire hazard is EXTREME.

We have one new fire today, LWF 126, west of Chard and north of Leismer.  This fire is out of control at 1000 hectares.  Crews and dozers that were actioning the fire late this afternoon have been pulled off for safety reasons.  We will continue to monitor this fire and see how it progresses overnight.  We expect the fire to settle down a bit over night.  The forecast winds for tomorrow are from the NW which could push the fire SE tomorrow.  We will provide further details tomorrow as they become available.

LWF 122 Burnt Lake Fire (in the Cold Lake Weapons Range) remains out of control at 10,000 hectares. Todays growth was on the west side as well as the northwest corner.  The cold front that crossed the fire this afternoon was accompanied by strong winds that pushed the fire on the west side.  Dozers had to pull out to a safe area during the winds and fire excursion.  Everyone is safe.  We did some controlled ignition along Ken Baker Road, to burn out a larger guard in that area.  Also during the afternoon winds, the fire was pushed towards Loseman Lake.  Helicopters with buckets managed to keep that excursion from getting too large.  The northeast corner of the fire is burning in aspen and there is a lot of smoke. Today's good news was that the southern flank of the fire is being held with the dozer guard and crews with pumps and hoses. The dozers will work through the night again tonight to strengthen and establish guard along today's ignition lines.  The attached map is from last night and doesn't reflect today's growth.  I hope to have a new map for you for tomorrow before noon.  Resources on the fire today are the same as yesterday.
