The wildfire hazard for the Lac La Biche area has dropped to MODERATE.  Cooler temperatures and higher humidity have helped lower the wildfire hazard, however gusty wind speeds continue to threaten areas that do not receive precipitation.  Continue to exercise caution with wildfires.  The Fire Advisory has been revised and permits are being issued for light burning (burn barrels, grass, hand piled brush).  Suspended permits are now reinstated with the exception of any heavy burning.  Non-essential and heavy burning is still suspended.

Just a reminder that even though we are issuing permits for some burning, you cannot burn when winds exceed 15km/hr.  Tomorrow's winds are forecast to be substantially stronger than that, so please refrain from any burning until weather conditions are more favorable.

An arctic front pushing across the province on Friday night should bring cooler temperatures and unsettled weather.  The forecast for Saturday is for a high of 11 with 50% humidity, potential rain, and winds NW25G45.  Sunday and Monday are expected to be cooler than normal, dry and with lighter winds.

We had four new grass fires today.  Despite the increased humidity and cooler temps, grass fires are still a potential threat. All fires are extinguished or under control.

We have 14 crews, 4 helicopters and various pieces of heavy equipment positioned across the area.

Your next update will be issued on Thursday, May 7, unless conditions change in the interim.
