The wildfire hazard for the Lac La Biche forest area is MODERATE, and expected to climb over the next several days.

The rain expected earlier in the week didn't amount to as much precipitation as expected, missing some areas totally.  Strong and gusty winds have been doing their best to dry out the grass and surface fuels.  With scattered lightning, the potential for wildfire is building.

We didn't have any new wildfires today.  We are still monitoring two fires from the long weekend.  So far this season we have had 46 wildfires.

We have crews, helicopters and the air tankers on hand to action any new wildfires in the area. We have exported some crews to help in the Slave Lake forest area.

Remember that you need a permit for any burning other than a campfire.  Permits help us understand where to expect smoke or fire in the forest.  Now is a good time to get your permit for any burning you are planning to do next weekend.  Call you local Wildfire Management office and a patrolman will visit your burn site and issue a free permit.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
