MODERATE Wildfire Hazard for the Lac La Biche Forest Area

gfx-hsb-wildfiredangerupdate-moderate.jpgThe wildfire hazard is MODERATE for the Lac La Biche Forest Area.

Open fields and meadows with dry grass pose a wildfire hazard in the spring.  Although there is some snow left along the tree lines, and some water lying about in ditches, the landscape is quite dry for this time of year. Below our firefighters are using shovels and water to make sure a grass fire is extinguished.

Many counties have Fire Advisories and Fire Restrictions in place.  Check albertafirebans.ca to see if it's safe to have a campfire wherever you might be headed this weekend.  There is currently no restriction on fires in the Lac La Biche forest area.

There is currently one wildfire in the area.  This fire is under control.  We've had 18 fires so far this wildfire season.  The majority of fires have been small - some have been abandoned campfires and some have been permit fires that have gotten away from the landowner. Remember, if you have a permit to do any burning, make sure that you only burn as much as you can control. Have water and equipment on hand, as well as manpower, to help you keep your burn under control - and keep an eye on the wind!

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
