The wildfire hazard for the Lac La Biche area is MODERATE.

Cooler temperatures, higher humidity, light winds and the chance of rain is keeping the wildfire hazard at MODERATE.

We had one new fire this week which was caused by lightning.  We've had a total of 220 wildfires so far this season.  We have 8 crews, 2 helicopters and the airtankers available to fight any new wildfires.

Continue to be diligent in the forest, even though things are cool and damp.  It's typical for us to get fall grass fires, once the standing grass dries out or cures.  The longer term forecast is calling for a return to warmer temperatures which will dry out the grass.  In the meantime, cut your grass and clear leaves away as they fall, particularly from your roof and eaves troughs.  Cleaning up now means less of a hazard in the Spring.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
