If you're doing any burning this season, please be careful. The minimal snow cover, and below average moisture conditions, make it possible for fires to burn down into the ground into the organic matter. This kind of fire might look like it's out on the surface, but it can become a very big in-ground fire that is difficult to extinguish. Keep your fires small, and soak them, stir the ashes, and soak them again to prevent these fires from emerging as big ground fires in the Spring.
