Lac La Biche Area Update

LOW Wildfire Hazard for Lac La Biche Forest Area

Posted on Fri, Oct 07, 2016

GFX-HSB-WildfireDangerUpdate-Low.jpgThe wildfire hazard is LOW.

Cooler temperatures and precipitation are keeping the wildfire hazard at LOW.

Despite this, please be diligent about putting out your campfires.  Hikers, berry pickers and hunters, please take the time to put your campfires out before you leave them.  At this time of year, fires can smoulder and dig down into the ground, emerging as a wildfire in the spring. Take the time to stomp your fires out or soak them before you head on your way.  Make sure your favorite berry patch or hunting spot is there next time you want to come back.

Now is also a good time to FireSmart your home and yard to withstand wildfires next Spring. Cut your grass short, trim any overhanging branches away from your roof, trim tree branches 2 meters up from the ground, and clean out your flower beds.  Leaves and grass that build up will become dry and flammable in the spring - and you don't want that next to your house!  Trim cedar and juniper bushes, and make sure your woodpile is a good distance from your house.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
