The wildfire hazard is LOW in the forest area.
A fire permit is not required for any burning outside of fire season (Nov 1- Feb 28). Please continue to use caution with your winter burning.
Here's some tips for safe winter burning:
- Burn when there is snow cover, the ground is frozen and winds are light (less than 12 km/hr)
- Keep it clean! Avoid mixing soil with the woody debris by using a brush rake or excavator to achieve a clean, efficient burn
- Ensure that debris piles are at least 25 metres from trees, brush and structures
- Only burn what you can control. Never leave your fire unattended.
- Make sure you have the appropriate tools nearby to control your fire - water, shovels and access to heavy equipment
We have crews working in the forest area; some crews are working on FireSmart projects and others are examining areas for potential threat from Mountain Pine Beetle.
Wildfire season starts on March 1.
