The wildfire hazard is HIGH for the Lac La Biche forest area.

Weather conditions remain hot, dry and breezy, keeping the wildfire hazard rating elevated. Any fires that start are likely to spread quickly.

Enjoy the long weekend.  Keep campfires small and under control.  Remember never to leave a fire unattended.  Soak it, stir the ashes and soak it again to make sure your campfire is out before you leave it.

Hunters - if you have a campfire while you're out, please make sure you extinguish it. At this time each year we get wildfires that start from abandoned campfires.

Standing grass in meadows, along roads and pipelines, and in ditches is drying out.  Be careful if you are quadding in these areas.  Stop frequently, clear grass and muskeg from your machine's hotspots that can dry out, smoulder, fall to the ground and start a wildfire.

Thanks for doing your part to prevent wildfire.
