The wildfire hazard for the Lac La Biche Forest Area has climbed to HIGH.

The forecast for Friday is for temperatures of 17 degrees, 30% humidity and winds SE20 gusting to 35 km/hr.  There is no precipitation in the forecast.  Increasing temperatures over the weekend, with steady winds and no precipitation mean the forest will be dry and the wildfire hazard will be HIGH.

The FIRE ADVISORY remains in place because there is a danger of grass fires under these conditions.  The image below shows one of our firefighters controlling a grass fire.  He is using water from his backpack to put hotspots out along the edge of the burn.

We had two new fires today.  Both were grass fires that were extinguished by our quick acting wildland firefighters.  So far this season we've had 51 wildfires in the area.  One fire from two weeks ago remains under control.

We have 12 crews, five helicopters, a dozer unit and several water trucks positioned across the area.

Do your part to prevent wildfire.  Follow the conditions on the back of fire permits.  It's not safe to burn when winds are stronger than 12 km/hr.  The winds today and tomorrow are too strong for safe burning.

This update is issued daily when the hazard is HIGH or greater, and weekly when the hazard is LOW.  Your next update will be issued tomorrow.
