The wildfire hazard has climbed back to HIGH.

Although there is precipitation in the forecast, it seems to be missing us!  The forecast for tomorrow includes a high of 21 degrees, humidity of 40% and winds from the northeast at 20 km/hr.  The winds have been consistent over the past several days, and are doing a good job of drying out the forest.

We had no new fires again today!  We are on the watch for holdover lightning fires that could emerge in the next few days as the ground continues to dry out and is stirred by the wind.

Crews continue to work on LWF 122 (Burnt Lake Fire) and LWF 126/148 (Pony Creek Fires).  Don't be alarmed if you see smoke coming from within the perimeter of these fires over the next several days.  As the forest dries out, and with the winds, hotspots and smouldering trees can be expected to flare up.  Our crews are working on the fires in a grid pattern, and will continue to extinguish hot spots as they go.  Any new flare ups will be dealt with quickly.

We have 14 crews, the airtankers, six helicopters and some heavy equipment positioned across the area. There are 100 firefighters, six helicopters and 13 pieces of heavy equipment working on LWF 122.  There are 41 firefighters, four helicopters and two pieces of heavy equipment working on LWF 126/148.

FireSmart Tip

Ensure your burn barrel is covered by a metal screen with 1/4 inch mesh.  This prevents most sparks from escaping and being carried by the wind.  You need a permit for a burn barrel.
