The wildfire hazard is EXTREME for Wednesday, May 31 for the Lac La Biche forest area.

The forecast for tomorrow is for a high of 29 C with humidity of 20% and strong winds gusting to 40 km/hr.  When humidity is lower than the temperature, the potential is greater for wildfires. Any fires that start tomorrow will travel quickly, pushed by the gusty winds.

You need a fire permit for any burning other than a campfire.  Even with a fire permit you cannot burn when winds exceed 15 km/hr.  Tomorrow's winds are SE 25 gusting to 40 km/hr, so please, no burning tomorrow.

Do your part to prevent wildfire by being mindful when riding quads or OHVs in the forest area. Grass and muskeg can buildup in hot spots like wheel wells and under seats.  This debris heats up to the point of smouldering, drops off the machine, and can start a wildfire along your path. Stop frequently, clear hot spots of debris and soak it or stomp on it to make sure it's not a problem later on.

We didn't have any new wildfires today.  So far this season we've had 46 wildfires in the area. We had one grass fire in the Janvier area last night after this report was issued.  That fire was extinguished and there are no active fires in the area.  There are several active fires in the province, including the Slave Lake area and the High Level area.

We have 14 crews, 14 helicopters, air tankers, and heavy equipment positioned across the area to fight wildfires tomorrow.
