Warm temperatures and winds are keeping the wildfire danger at EXTREME.

The forecast for tomorrow is for a high of 22 degrees, with humidity at 20%, no precipitation, and drying southwest winds at 20 km/hr.

There is a Fire Advisory in place.  All fire permits have been suspended, including burn barrels. Previous burning sites must be checked to ensure they are fully extinguished. No new fire permits will be issued for any non-essential burning.  The use of fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited.

What is allowed: Safe wood campfires in campgrounds (within fire rings) or random camping areas, charcoal briquettes, portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbecues, catalytic or infrared-style heaters.

Be mindful when operating OHVs (quads) in dry, grassy areas. Stop frequently and clear machine hotspots of grass and other debris that can heat up, fall to the ground, and start a wildfire.

We had four new wildfires today - three in the Janvier area and one near Avenir.  We've had a total of 93 wildfires so far this season.

We have 15 crews, the Air Tractors and their bird dog, the Fire Boss group and their bird dog, 14 helicopters, 8 water trucks and 3 dozer groups on hand to fight wildfire tomorrow.

This photo shows our crew, RAP 8, going through their checks before getting into the helicopter that will take them on their patrol of the forest area.  RAP crews carry equipment with them in their leg packs, allowing them to keep their hands free to rappel down the rope to the wildfire. You guys rock!
