Fire season has officially ended but that doesn't mean safe burning practices do. To reduce the impact of smoke on the roadways ensure your piles are not left smouldering, extinguish them, and make sure proper signage is in place. Also, building clean piles makes them burn faster.

The High Level Forest Area has 5 wildfires. All of these fires are under control. No communities or structures are at risk.

Wildfires Of Note

• HWF-242: This wildfire is located 55 KM east of Fort Vermilion, south of the Peace River between the Mikkwa and Wabasca Rivers and is classified as under control. 

Since the start of wildfire season (March 1st), there have been 244 wildfires in the High Level Forest Area, burning a total of 23,737 hectares. To see a map with all of the wildfire locations, please click here.

The High Level Forest Area has resources positioned throughout the area ready for any new wildfire starts.

FIRE PERMITS

As of March 1, 2018 until October 31, 2018 any burning other than a small cooking or warming fire within the Forest Protection Area requires a fire permit. In the High Level Forest Area phone (780) 926-5407 to obtain a free fire permit. Please call with your home location, burn location, daytime phone number and what you plan to burn.
