Wet and cool conditions remain in the High Level Forest Area,
keeping the wildfire danger level at LOW

The High Level Forest Area has 8 wildfires. Of these fires; 3 are under control and 5 have been turned over to the responsible parties. No communities or structures are at risk at this time.

Wildfires Of Note

• HWF-215: This wildfire is located approximately 16 km North of Rainbow Lake and is classified as under control at 111 hectares in size.
• HWF-212: This wildfire is located in the Caribou Mountains Wildland Provincial Park. It is now under control at 6,728 hectares.
• HWF-177: This wildfire is located 42 km Northwest of Zama City. It is under control at 3,159 hectares. Crew continue to work on this wildfire with helicopters and dozers.

Since the start of wildfire season (March 1st), there have been 224 wildfires in the High Level Forest Area, burning a total of 23,546 hectares. To see a map with all of the wildfire locations, please click here.

FIRE PERMITS

As of March 1, 2018 any burning other than a small cooking or warming fire within the Forest Protection Area requires a fire permit. In the High Level Forest Area phone (780) 926-5407 to obtain a free fire permit. Please call with your home location, burn location, daytime phone number and what you plan to burn.

Soak It, Stir It, Soak It Again

Do your part and never leave a campfire unattended. Whether you are turning in for the night or going for a short hike, your campfire must be fully extinguished to prevent accidental wildfires. Once your fire has died down, spread the ashes around to expose any burning material. Slowly add water or loose dirt and soak it, stir it, and soak it again. Lots of water will speed the cooling process. For all this information and more please click here.
