The wildfire danger is extreme for the High Level Forest Area. The increased danger is due hot and dry conditions with no rain in the forecast. Stay safe this long weekend and report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE (3473).
WILDFIRE SITUATION REPORT | MAY 18, 2018 AT 4:00PM
The High Level Forest Area has 3 wildfires in the area. Of these 2 fires; 1 is classified as being held, and 2 are under control.
Wildfires of note:
- Fire (HWF050) is located 25km north of High Level, 5km south of Hutch Lake. This fire is classified as being held at 602 hectares.
- Fire (HWF070) is located 8km northwest of Rocky Lane, on the north side of highway 58. This fire is classified as under control at 56 hectares.

FIRE ADVISORY IN EFFECT
Due to the increasing hot temperatures and no rain in the forecast the High Level Forest Area has made an amendment to the current Fire Advisory, effective May 18, 2018 at 4:00pm.
- All existing fire permits are now suspended and no new permits will be issued until the area receives a significant amount of precipitation. It is also advised to check all burn sites from last winter and this spring.
HAVE A FUN AND SAFE LONG WEEKEND WITH THESE THREE SAFETY TIPS;
- Call 310-FIRE. If you spot smoke or fire in the forest. Don't think you're going to be able to put it out yourself. Call right away.
- Keep campfires small and under control. Don't leave them unattended. Above all - do not leave your camp spot at the end of the weekend without soaking your fire, stirring it up and soaking it again. Fires are not out until they are cold to the touch.
- Be mindful if operating off-highway vehicles in grassy areas. In just five minutes of idling, quad engines and hotspots reach over 200 degrees. Grass build up will ignite at these temperatures. Clear your machine hotspots frequently. Watch along your path for smoke or smoldering grass.
